Study Abroad
Study abroad is defined to include a range of international academic opportunities, including short-term study programs to quarter- to year-long academic courses, international service learning, international internships, and research abroad.
The majority of Ohio State students who elect to study abroad are from the Arts and Sciences. Some 700 of our majors—60% of the university total—regularly participate in programs that take them from Masaya, Nicaragua, to the Yangtze River Delta in China, to Lecce in southern-most Italy.
You are encouraged to take advantage of Ohio State’s more than 100 study abroad programs through the Office of International Affairs.
Students who receive travel grants are required to report their programs and travel plans to the Office of International Affairs (Grace Johnson, johnson.136@osu.edu) at least one quarter in advance of travel. OIA will provide information on:
- How to register yourself with the Department of State while traveling overseas;
- Health and safety guidelines for international travel; and
- How to enroll in Ohio State’s supplemental study abroad health insurance (mandatory for all students who are engaged in international programs for which they earn Ohio State academic credit).
